A Message to Founder Collective’s Future Investor in NYC
TL;DR: Apply for the Investor role here!
We’re looking for someone who wants to join Founder Collective for the next step of their career. You’ll be an active member of our investment team and have the opportunity to collaborate with the next generation of brilliant founders.
Can You Help Us Uncover the Next Uber? Shield AI? SeatGeek? Whoop?
We’re a seed-stage VC firm, and over the last 15 years, we’ve been fortunate to invest in extraordinary entrepreneurs who founded and scaled industry-leading companies, including Uber, The Trade Desk, Coupang, PillPack, Cruise, Seatgeek, and Whoop. We’re equally excited about our newer investments, including startups spanning clean tech to generative AI!
Founder Collective: The Most Aligned Fund for Founders at the Seed Stage
Since its founding in 2009, Founder Collective has been committed to being the most aligned fund for founders at the seed stage. We have been on the Midas List for eight of the last nine years and are proud to have backed over two dozen $1B+ startups and three worth over $30B.
We’re contrarians. We believe VC is a hell of a drug, startups are generally more successful when they raise less money, entrepreneurs should obsess over use cases instead of themes, and big businesses grow in weird spaces and unusual places.
We’re looking for someone to push our thinking and help find the next wave of great companies by acting as a new set of eyes, ears, and a voice for our team. Is that you?
About the role
The Investor is a full-fledged member of the investment team who advocates for potential investments (without being afraid to disagree and eager to learn from others), discusses strategy, and conducts diligence.
Here’s the type of person we’re looking for:
You are innately curious about the world and thrive when other intelligent, determined people surround you. You’ve founded or scaled a company and have the scars to show for it. You find yourself walking into any business — from an artisanal coffee shop to a doctor’s office — wondering how to improve their customer experience. You’re constantly trying new software tools to optimize your personal workflow and testing products you discover on Telegram or Discord.
- Building experience: Your founding experience helps inform your empathy for founders. It doesn’t have to be a startup, but we’re looking for someone who has shown an affinity for entrepreneurship.
- POV: You HAVE and LOVE taking points of view on tech and startups and sharing them with your colleagues and the world. You breathe conviction but have enough humility to acknowledge blindspots and are hungry to learn.
- NYC-focused: Ideally, you have an NYC network in the tech ecosystem. We are in the office 3–4 days a week and far more if you count the endless firehose of events NYC offers! This role is not great for WFH die-hards.
- Hustle: You can move projects forward, get an intro to a critical node in a network, or learn about a new industry with little direction. You make the most of every minute.
- Substantive & Social: You have a high emotional IQ, love working collaboratively to find the truth of any situation, and discover interesting people wherever you go.
- Optimism: Most of all, you want to work on helping the next generation of great founders learn from each other so that they can make a dent in the universe.
- Technically adept: Our ideal candidate will have worked at a software startup, designed interfaces, shipped code, or demonstrated a passion for participating in the tech ecosystem.
- Experience: Candidates should have 4–10 years of work experience and a salary range of $100,000-$170,000 scales with experience.
